System Specifications
The Photometers have been designed to withstand the harsh environment in which testing frequently has to be undertaken.
In designing the casing, special attention has been given to ensuring compact size, modern styling and ergonomic operation.
In order to minimise the risk of breakage the housings have only two separate removable parts - the battery compart-ment cover and the cell compartment lid. If the lid does become detached it can simply be pushed back into position onto the stainless steel pin.
The foil keyboard, which incorporates acoustic feedback via an on-board piezo buzzer, is scratch-resistant, water resistant and capable of withstanding attack by acids and solvents. The electronic components are sealed to provide maximum protection against corrosion. The cell compartment is hermetically sealed from the electronics to prevent any possible damage from accidental spillage, with the light source and photo-electric cell mounted in a way which provides maximum protection. The measuring chamber is sealed from the electronics. Damage is therefore ruled out in the event of accidental sample spillage.
This also applies to the light source and detector windows in the measuring chamber, as the optical system is housed in a splash-proof casing. The microprocessor-controlled Photometer ensures rapid, reliable and precise measurement of results for both laboratory and field applications.
Reagent System
A Photometer is only ever as good as the quality of its reagent system. AQUALYTIC reagent tablets with a 5 year shelf-life guarantee are therefore used for the analysis methods. All tablets are individually sealed in aluminium foil and are therefore protected from external climatic influences. They remain "fresh" until the foil is opened and so the possibility of reagent ageing is almost totally eliminated.
Reference Filter
Each Photometer is supplied with a reference filter which is sealed inside a cell. The filter is works-calibrated to that particular Photometer and allows a simulation of a defined Chlorine test result. Using the filter the operator is able to check the reproducibility of the test result and to possibly locate possible sources of error-in the unit itself, due to wrong reagents or due to the preparation of the sample.
Photometer AL 242
This unit analyses 10 different parameters. In the Anglo-American countries as well as in the Mediterranean region assessment of water quality is frequently made using the Langelier Water Balance System (or Langelier Saturation Index) see separate heading.
This requires test results for Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness and pH amongst other things. The AL 242 Photometer carrys out these tests in addition to the popular disinfectants Chlorine, Bromine and Ozone.
A Cyanuric Acid test is provided for when stabilised Chlorine products are in use and tests for Copper, Iron and Aluminium are also provided.
